About Tawy House
Tawy House Joliet (which at this writing in 2026 has been closed for some years and was sold, so it is no longer accessible to us in any way) was the second incarnation of our temple building.
Tawy House I, a Kemetic Orthodox retreat and conference center open primarily in the summer months, was situated on approximately 2.5 semi-wooded acres in Southwest Michigan, and located within the childhood home of our spiritual founder, Nisut Hekatawy I (Rev. Dr. Tamara L. Siuda). Eventually we outgrew our house in the woods, and the search for a larger, more diversified space for a full-time permanent temple began.
Tawy House II, purchased with a combination of a special grant from our benefactors and temple member fundraising in October 2003, was a 100-year-old three-story brick building with 18 rooms, formerly used as a convent. It contained a temple chapel, a library, dedicated kitchen and dining areas, the permanent residence and offices of our spiritual leader, and temporary (short- and long-term) guestrooms for up to 12 visiting clergy and temple members.
Note: Tawy House has closed and the building was sold, so it is no longer open for visitation or part of our temple property. Please contact us on our kemet.org site if you are interested in visiting with or speaking to one of our clergy members about the Kemetic Orthodox Religion; we have clergy in multiple parts of the world who maintain shrines to their deities and who may permit visitations or conduct programming on their own until and unless we open another central temple building in the future.
